ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar — Madagascar’s contemporary art scene is entering a new phase of international engagement as Fondation H expands programmes designed to support artists, curators and other creative professionals.

The foundation’s 2026 professional development programme includes studio-visit meet-ups in Madagascar and Mauritius, bringing artists into contact with curators, critics, researchers, gallery owners and cultural organisations.

The initiative is designed to strengthen professional networks and create new opportunities for Malagasy artists beyond the local art market.

Fondation H is also preparing a major exhibition in Antananarivo celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Prix Paritana, featuring 25 winners and runners-up of the contemporary-art prize.

The exhibition will include the work of Temandrota, the first winner of the Prix Paritana, who is marking three decades of artistic activity.

The development highlights the growing infrastructure around Madagascar’s contemporary-art sector, where galleries, foundations and private collectors are increasingly supporting emerging creative talent.

For Malagasy artists, stronger links with international curators and institutions could provide greater visibility, residencies, exhibitions and professional opportunities.

The focus on networking also reflects a broader effort to position Madagascar within the African contemporary-art ecosystem rather than treating its creative scene as an isolated island market.

With new exhibitions and professional programmes planned, Madagascar’s artists are gaining more platforms to present their work to regional and international audiences.
