MASERU — Lesotho has launched its National Transformation and Inclusive Development Strategy 2026/27–2030/31, establishing a new five-year framework for government policy and national development.

The strategy places economic transformation, good governance, human capital development and climate resilience among its major priorities, with the government seeking to move from planning toward measurable implementation.

Government officials say the framework is intended to provide clearer direction for national priorities while strengthening coordination across public institutions. Its focus on inclusive development also places employment, skills development and improved public services within the wider transformation agenda.

The strategy is expected to guide government programmes and investment decisions during the coming five years, while providing a framework for monitoring progress against national development objectives.

Political and governance observers say successful implementation will depend on effective coordination, financing and accountability across ministries and other institutions.

The climate-resilience component is also significant as Lesotho faces growing pressure to strengthen infrastructure, agriculture and communities against environmental and economic shocks.

The new strategy gives Lesotho’s government a five-year policy roadmap and could become an important benchmark for measuring progress on governance, economic reform and inclusive national development.
