Accra, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Ghana’s new Minister for Defence, bringing a new leader to the ministry nearly a year after the previous defence minister died in a military helicopter crash.
Adjei was reassigned from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to take charge of the Defence Ministry. He previously served as Deputy Defence Minister and brings experience from his earlier government roles.
The appointment comes at an important time for Ghana’s security sector, with the government facing the need to strengthen national defence coordination and respond to evolving security challenges in the West African region.
Adjei has pledged renewed energy and commitment to his new responsibilities, saying he is honoured by the confidence placed in him by President Mahama.
The leadership change is expected to attract close attention from Ghana’s political community and security stakeholders as the new minister begins work at the Defence Ministry.
The appointment marks a significant new chapter for Ghana’s defence leadership and national security agenda.
