Egypt is moving toward a more connected healthcare system as the Ministry of Health and Population discusses plans for the Egypt Smart Healthcare Platform, a unified digital framework intended to link healthcare facilities and patient information.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed the initiative with representatives from MTS and Inspur on September 14, focusing on digital transformation and lessons from China’s healthcare technology experience.

The proposed platform would integrate electronic patient health records, telemedicine services and a command-and-control centre, allowing medical data to be connected across healthcare facilities.

According to the ministry, the system is also expected to use artificial intelligence technologies while keeping patients at the centre of healthcare delivery. A pilot for the first phase was discussed alongside implementation and financing options.

The initiative could become an important component of Egypt’s wider digital-health transformation, particularly as the country expands healthcare coverage and modernizes medical services.
