CAIRO — Egypt has extended a government decision requiring eligible public-sector institutions and workplaces to continue implementing remote work on Sundays throughout July 2026.

The decision, issued under a Cabinet resolution, is aimed at managing weekly pressure on transportation networks and reducing congestion in major urban areas, particularly Cairo and surrounding metropolitan districts.

Government officials say the measure is intended to support administrative efficiency while reducing unnecessary pressure on public transport and city roads. The policy also reflects the government’s broader effort to use flexible work arrangements as part of public-sector modernization.

Employees in affected institutions will continue working remotely on Sundays, while essential services and sectors requiring on-site operations remain subject to their specific operational needs.

Political and administrative analysts say the decision could provide useful experience for future flexible-work policies and digital public-service reforms.
