Conakry Floods: Major Roads Submerged After Torrential Rain Hits Guinea Capital
CONAKRY, Guinea — Heavy rainfall has caused serious flooding across parts of Conakry, leaving several major roads and transport routes difficult or impossible to use.
The intense downpour on Monday, August 10, 2026, caused water levels to rise around strategic locations including the Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport bridge and Kiroty bridge, according to local reports. Traffic was severely disrupted as floodwaters covered major sections of the road network.
The flooding comes after Guinea's National Meteorological Agency had warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms and a high risk of flooding between August 9 and 11.
The latest flooding is raising fresh concerns about drainage, urban infrastructure and road safety in Conakry, particularly during the peak of the rainy season.
Authorities and residents are now facing pressure to respond to the immediate transport disruption while limiting the impact of further rainfall.
