PRAIA, Cabo Verde — Cabo Verde has secured approval for €8.844 million in financing from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to support a major programme aimed at improving sustainable water access for agriculture.
The financing will support the PRO-ÁGUA programme, covering the islands of Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Santiago and Fogo. The initiative is designed to improve equitable access to water and create better conditions for more resilient agricultural production.
The approved funding consists of two loans: €4.65 million on highly concessional terms and €4.194 million on ordinary terms. The total estimated cost of PRO-ÁGUA is €23.31 million.
The next stage is the signing of the financing agreement, followed by national ratification procedures. Initial disbursements will begin once the required conditions for the programme to take effect are completed.
