TUNIS — Tunisia has launched an urgent response to problems affecting water-supply infrastructure after President Kais Saied inspected the Ghdir El Golla water complex, a key facility operated by the National Water Distribution Utility, SONEDE.

During the inspection, the president highlighted several shortcomings and called for them to be addressed quickly. He also demanded full accountability for anyone found to have failed in carrying out their duties.

The developments come as Tunisia faces pressure on water networks during a period of high summer consumption. SONEDE has also undertaken an exceptional project to strengthen water supplies in several areas of Mornaguia by connecting local distribution networks to the main Ghdir El Golla system.

The measures are aimed at improving network capacity, limiting disruptions, and strengthening coordination between institutions responsible for managing the country’s water infrastructure.

The latest developments have placed water security, infrastructure reliability, and public-service accountability at the centre of Tunisia’s national debate.
