GABORONE — Botswana businesses are adapting to a new tax framework after changes to the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, and Value Added Tax Act came into effect on July 1, 2026.

Business Botswana and the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) are expanding stakeholder engagement workshops to help companies understand the new compliance requirements and implementation timelines.

The tax changes are expected to increase the focus on compliance, reporting, and digital interaction between businesses and revenue authorities. Business organisations have called for clear guidance so that new regulatory requirements do not place unnecessary pressure on companies during difficult economic conditions.

BURS has pledged to work closely with the private sector to improve understanding of the new laws and encourage voluntary compliance.

Further workshops are scheduled across the country, giving businesses outside Gaborone an opportunity to receive direct guidance on the new tax system.

The rollout marks an important development for Botswana’s private sector, with companies now reviewing their tax procedures, financial systems, and compliance strategies to meet the new regulatory environment.
