The investment forum highlights Benin's growing efforts to move beyond exporting raw agricultural materials and increase the production of finished goods locally.
One of the main attractions is the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone, which has become an important centre for the country's manufacturing ambitions.
According to information presented at the forum, the industrial zone currently processes approximately 40,000 metric tonnes of cotton annually, representing nearly 12% of Benin's national cotton production. Its integrated textile facilities manufacture garments for international markets.
Discussions at the forum also focused on investment opportunities in several industries, including:
- Textile manufacturing: Expanding locally produced garments for international buyers.
- Agricultural processing: Increasing the domestic processing of cashews, soybeans and shea.
- Industrial equipment: Attracting manufacturers and technology suppliers.
- Packaging and plastics: Developing supporting industries for local production.
- Export development: Connecting Beninese manufacturers with African and international markets.
Afreximbank also highlighted financing opportunities, including trade finance, equipment financing, investment support and risk-sharing facilities to help businesses establish and expand manufacturing operations.
The event included visits to industrial facilities and business matchmaking sessions designed to connect investors with potential manufacturing partners.
Benin's next major challenge will be converting investor interest into concrete projects, new factories and sustainable employment. If successful, the expansion could strengthen local businesses, increase exports and position the country as a more competitive manufacturing destination in West Africa.
