Algeria Breaking News: Earthquake Recorded Near Azazga
ALGIERS, Algeria — A 3.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded near Azazga in Algeria’s Tizi Ouzou province early Wednesday, according to seismic monitoring data.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the earthquake occurred at 00:02 UTC on September 16, corresponding to 1:02 a.m. local time. Its epicentre was located about 12 kilometres east of Azazga, at a depth of approximately 4 kilometres. Five felt reports had been recorded by the monitoring service at the time of its latest update.
Data published through the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System also recorded the event at magnitude 3.5, with coordinates placing it in the Tizi Ouzou area.
The tremor comes shortly after another earthquake in Algeria: the country's official Algeria Press Service reported a 3.6-magnitude earthquake in Bouira Province on September 15, centred about two kilometres east of Ain Aloui.
Authorities and seismic monitoring agencies continue to track earthquake activity across northern Algeria.
