Equatorial Guinea Technology: GETESA Pushes 5G and Fibre Expansion
MALABO, Equatorial Guinea — Equatorial Guinea is moving forward with a major modernization of its telecommunications infrastructure as GETESA expands its focus on faster mobile connectivity, fibre networks and digital services.
The state-owned operator has launched a modernization programme targeting 5G technology, expanded fibre-optic infrastructure, public Wi-Fi and a new mobile-money platform.
The technology push was reinforced by a six-month cooperation programme between GETESA and Huawei, focused on optimizing network infrastructure, increasing capacity and improving data transmission speeds and voice and data services.
The developments form part of Equatorial Guinea's broader effort to strengthen its digital economy and connectivity infrastructure. The World Bank has identified digital transformation as an important component of the country's economic diversification strategy.
For consumers and businesses, the planned upgrades could support faster mobile services, wider connectivity and greater use of digital financial services, although the timing and scale of individual deployments will determine their eventual impact.
