The Zambia Police Service has launched investigations and appealed to the public for help identifying a motorist captured in a viral video showing an altercation with a traffic police officer along Kafue Road in Lusaka.

Police spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha said the incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at approximately 11:30 hours in the Carousel area.

According to the police account, officers on routine patrol intercepted a blue Mitsubishi Canter light truck for inspection. They reportedly discovered that the vehicle had expired road tax and an expired insurance certificate.

The driver was allegedly instructed by Constable Musonda Caphers to park the vehicle off the road. Police say the motorist instead became confrontational, used abusive language towards the officer and subsequently drove away.

The police spokesperson said the officer remained calm and professional throughout the encounter.

Investigators have so far been unable to establish the vehicle’s registration number, making it difficult to identify and locate the driver.

Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the incident, recognises the vehicle or has additional video footage to provide information at the nearest police station.

The incident has renewed public discussion about road safety, respect for law enforcement and compliance with traffic regulations.

Police say investigations are continuing as they seek to establish the motorist’s identity.
