ABUJA, Nigeria — Political discussion around Nigeria’s 2027 general election is intensifying after Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa called for continuity in President Bola Tinubu’s reform programme.
Obasa made the comments in an Independence Day message marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, saying the country should consolidate reforms implemented since 2023.
The Lagos Assembly Speaker said the next phase should include completing major road, rail and port projects, expanding local refining capacity, strengthening agriculture and investing in human capital.
He also said government efforts should translate fiscal improvements into tangible benefits for citizens.
According to Obasa, the 2027 general election will give Nigerians an opportunity to decide on the direction of the reform programme. His comments add to the growing political debate surrounding the next presidential election and the future direction of federal policies.
The development comes as political parties and political figures increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, with policy continuity and economic reforms expected to remain major subjects of national debate.
