BOI’s ₦250 Billion Development Bond Attracts Strong Investor Demand
ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BOI) has recorded a major milestone in the domestic capital market after its maiden ₦250 billion Series 1 fixed-rate development bond was oversubscribed within five working days.
The strong demand highlights continued institutional interest in long-term financing instruments and the ability of Nigeria’s capital market to mobilise funds for economic development.
The bond is expected to strengthen BOI’s capacity to finance businesses and productive sectors across Nigeria, potentially supporting industrial expansion, infrastructure and job creation.
The development comes as BOI increases its focus on priority sectors. The bank has said 80% of lending to large enterprises is being targeted toward areas including power, manufacturing, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals and digital infrastructure.
Strong demand for the bond could therefore provide additional momentum for Nigeria’s industrial financing agenda, particularly as businesses continue seeking longer-term capital.
The development is also significant for Nigeria’s financial markets, where deeper domestic funding sources can help reduce dependence on short-term financing and support large-scale economic projects.
