NIAMEY, Niger — Niger is stepping up efforts to expand its digital technology ecosystem as the Niger Digital Day 2026 initiative continues its nationwide programme.

The event was held in Niamey on August 18–19, with the programme scheduled to move to Zinder on August 22–23, according to the initiative's official programme.

The digital roadshow is designed to bring technology opportunities closer to Nigerien communities while promoting digital skills, innovation and youth participation in the country's technology sector.

The initiative comes as Niger develops a broader strategy for digital transformation, including efforts to strengthen telecommunications, digital services and technology-based economic opportunities. Recent government discussions have also focused on the country's National Digital Development Policy for 2026–2035.

Taking digital initiatives beyond Niamey could help widen access to technology and encourage more young Nigeriens to participate in the digital economy.

The move to Zinder places the focus on regional participation, potentially creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, students and technology enthusiasts outside the capital.
