Mozambique is strengthening research into tuberculosis among children living with HIV, with the National Health Institute presenting new evidence on diagnosis and treatment.
The study, published by the Instituto Nacional de Saúde (INS) on September 22, focuses on improving understanding of tuberculosis in children affected by HIV and strengthening approaches to their care.
Childhood tuberculosis can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms may overlap with other illnesses. Research aimed at improving detection and treatment can therefore support health professionals in identifying cases and providing appropriate care.
The latest work is part of Mozambique’s broader efforts to strengthen public-health research, disease surveillance and evidence-based healthcare.
The INS has also recently been expanding its preparedness activities, including exercises designed to improve the country’s response to public-health emergencies.
The new TB research highlights the importance of stronger diagnostic and treatment strategies for children living with HIV as Mozambique continues to strengthen its health system.
