Lesotho is stepping up efforts to attract foreign investment as the government seeks to diversify the economy, strengthen exports and create more employment opportunities.

Prime Minister Sam Matekane made the appeal while attending the 9th World Investment Forum in Doha, Qatar, where he highlighted the importance of investment in building a more competitive and resilient economy.

Speaking under the theme Investing in the Future, Matekane said foreign investment should deliver practical benefits for the country by supporting local businesses, improving workforce skills and helping Basotho companies reach international markets.

He also stressed the need to increase value addition and export competitiveness, allowing Lesotho to move beyond dependence on a limited range of economic activities.

The government's investment priorities include attracting capital that can support productive industries, strengthen domestic enterprises and create sustainable employment.

For Lesotho, the challenge will be turning investment commitments into projects that deliver measurable benefits for businesses and communities. Improved access to international markets, stronger local production and skills development will be important to achieving these goals.

The country's ability to attract long-term investors could play a significant role in expanding business opportunities and creating jobs for Basotho.
