Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York on 24 September, with talks focusing on Guinea’s institutional development and cooperation with the UN, according to the Guinean presidency.
The meeting followed Doumbouya’s address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The presidency’s statement said the discussions included peace, security, governance, stability and development, as well as Guinea’s efforts to consolidate institutions, promote inclusion and combat corruption.
Doumbouya also sought continued UN support for the country’s institutional consolidation and participatory governance process. Economic development was another topic, with the president highlighting Guinea’s natural resources and the government’s Simandou 2040 programme.
The UN chief, according to the presidency, reaffirmed the organisation’s willingness to support Guinea’s development efforts. No new agreement or specific funding commitment was detailed in the statement.
