Health authorities in Sudan’s East Darfur State have confirmed five cholera cases at El Daein Hospital, prompting emergency measures to prevent further transmission.

According to the East Darfur Ministry of Health, the patients arrived from areas of North Kordofan State and were initially treated as suspected cases before medical tests confirmed cholera. Officials said the patients’ conditions had improved following treatment and they were transferred to an isolation ward.

Health authorities are now preparing isolation centres and emergency response teams in Abu Jabra, Adila and Abu Karinka, areas bordering West Kordofan. The response comes as cholera transmission continues to pose a wider public-health challenge in parts of Sudan.

The development highlights the importance of rapid detection, isolation, treatment and disease surveillance as Sudan continues to face pressure on its healthcare system.
