PRAIA, Cabo Verde — Cabo Verde suffered a 1–2 defeat to Rwanda at the National Stadium in Praia on Tuesday, September 29, in their second Group K match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Blue Sharks opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Gilson Benchimol converted an opportunity created by Ryan Mendes. Rwanda responded just before half-time to level the match at 1–1.
Rwanda then completed the comeback early in the second half, scoring on a counter-attack to take a 2–1 lead. Cabo Verde enjoyed more possession and created further opportunities, but could not find an equaliser.
The result leaves Cabo Verde without a point after two Group K matches, following their earlier defeat away to Mali. The team will now turn its attention to the remaining fixtures in the qualification campaign.
