BUJUMBURA, Burundi — Burundi is considering joining a proposed International Stabilization Force for Gaza, following a recent visit by senior Burundian military officials to Israel.

According to officials cited by the Associated Press, a Burundian military delegation travelled to Israel last week to discuss potential participation in the planned multinational force. No final deployment decision has yet been announced.

The proposed force is intended to support a ceasefire arrangement, help train Palestinian police and assist with the security of humanitarian aid delivery.

Burundi's potential involvement comes alongside participation or consideration by several other countries, including Uganda, Morocco, Kosovo, Kazakhstan and Albania. Uganda has already received parliamentary approval for a troop contribution.

If Burundi proceeds, the deployment would represent a significant new international security commitment for the East African country, which has extensive experience in African peacekeeping operations.

The discussions are still at an exploratory stage, and further diplomatic and military decisions will be required before any Burundian troops could be deployed.
