Burundi is preparing a new E-Justice digital platform designed to connect the country’s criminal justice institutions and bring more judicial services online.
The planned system will link judicial police, prosecutors, courts and prisons, creating a digital chain for managing and preserving case files. Citizens are also expected to be able to submit certain complaints online and follow the progress of their cases.
The initiative represents a significant step in Burundi’s digital transformation, potentially reducing paperwork and helping authorities process judicial cases more efficiently.
However, limited internet access and the cost of digital services remain major challenges. Recent data cited by We Are Tech Africa indicates that only 11.1% of Burundians were internet users at the end of 2025, while 4G coverage remained limited.
The E-Justice project is therefore expected to combine digital platforms with assistance points to help citizens who have limited digital skills or connectivity.
If successfully implemented, the platform could become one of Burundi’s most important technology-driven reforms in public services.
