GABORONE — Botswana’s creative sector is preparing for a major opportunity as the government sets aside P23 million for the country’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations marking 60 years of independence.
The programme is expected to include musicians, actors, fashion designers, visual artists, artisans, and cultural groups, giving creative professionals opportunities to showcase their work and participate in national celebrations.
Arts officials say the Diamond Jubilee programme could provide important visibility and business opportunities for Botswana’s creative industry. Districts will also be encouraged to present their own cultural and artistic expressions, allowing communities to highlight local heritage and talent.
The initiative is expected to support performances, exhibitions, fashion showcases, cultural presentations, and other creative activities connected to the national celebrations.
The programme places Botswana’s artists and cultural practitioners at the centre of one of the country’s biggest national celebrations, potentially helping expand audiences and create new opportunities across the creative economy.
As preparations continue, the Diamond Jubilee is emerging as a major platform for celebrating Botswana’s artistic identity, cultural heritage, and growing creative industries.
