BANJUL, The Gambia — President Adama Barrow and Essa Mbye Faal have formalized a political alliance between Barrow’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and Faal’s APP-Sobeya, in a move reported on September 28 ahead of The Gambia’s December 2026 presidential election.
The agreement was signed at State House in Banjul, with party supporters and delegates attending the ceremony. Barrow said he would honour his political commitments and work closely with Faal, while urging the new partners to focus on national development, including infrastructure and economic growth.
The alliance adds a new development to the country’s pre-election political landscape. The December presidential vote is scheduled for December 5, 2026, according to the Africa Center for Strategic Studies’ election calendar.
The agreement’s practical details and how the two parties will coordinate their campaign were not fully outlined in the report.
