NIAMEY, Niger — Niger has opened a new political and institutional review as President Abdourahamane Tiani convenes an extraordinary session of the Consultative Council for Refoundation (CCR) on October 5 and 6, 2026.
The two-day session is focused on several issues linked to the country’s agricultural situation and national food supply, according to information released by the government’s General Secretariat.
Council members are expected to assess the progress of the 2026 agricultural campaign, while also reviewing grain stocks held by the Niger Food Products Office (OPVN).
The agenda also includes the availability of agricultural inputs and equipment through the Central Supply of Agricultural Inputs and Equipment, as well as measures concerning the supply and distribution of petroleum products across Niger.
The extraordinary meeting comes as the authorities continue to use the refoundation institutions established under the country’s current political transition to address economic, agricultural and social priorities.
A separate decree has also ended Hadiza Adamou’s position as a member of the CCR, although the government statement did not give a reason for the decision.
The CCR discussions could provide a fresh indication of the authorities’ priorities on food security, agricultural production and essential supplies in the months ahead.
