DURBAN — South Africa’s manufacturing sector has received a significant boost after Toyota South Africa Motors officially commenced production of its latest-generation Hilux, supported by a R10.4 billion investment in its Durban production facilities.

The investment includes upgraded production lines, advanced robotics, expanded logistics infrastructure, and new manufacturing technologies designed to increase efficiency while strengthening the country’s export competitiveness. The upgraded facility is expected to produce vehicles for both the domestic market and international exports.

Government and business leaders say the investment reinforces confidence in South Africa’s industrial economy. Officials noted that the project supports industrialisation, local supplier development, manufacturing competitiveness, and long-term job creation within the automotive sector.

Industry analysts believe the expansion will also benefit component manufacturers, logistics companies, and export businesses while strengthening South Africa’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading automotive production hubs.

The latest investment highlights growing collaboration between government and the private sector to expand manufacturing capacity and attract high-value industrial investment into South Africa.
