South Africa is preparing to launch a R1 billion labour activation partnership between the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), in a government initiative focused on employment support and economic participation.
Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth is scheduled to brief the media on the partnership on 25 September 2026. The announcement was listed among the latest government statements on 22 September.
The partnership brings together two public institutions with roles in labour-market support and economic empowerment. Further details on the programme’s implementation, eligibility requirements and how funding will be allocated are expected at the launch.
The initiative comes amid ongoing national debate about unemployment and the measures government is using to expand work opportunities. The launch briefing is expected to provide more information on the partnership’s intended beneficiaries and operational plans.
