Sierra Leone President Bio Announces Major Cabinet Reshuffle
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — President Julius Maada Bio has carried out a major reshuffle of Sierra Leone’s cabinet, making changes to several senior government positions.
The changes announced on August 11, 2026, include the replacement of Finance Minister Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura and Foreign Affairs Minister Timothy Musa Kabba. Both officials have reportedly been reassigned as presidential advisers at State House.
Karefa Kargbo has been appointed Finance Minister, while Mohamed Rahman Swaray has been moved from Employment, Labour and Social Security to become Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The reshuffle also affects the National Revenue Authority, with Abu Kanneh appointed as Commissioner General, while other senior appointments have been announced across government.
The changes put new leadership at the centre of Sierra Leone’s economic management and foreign policy, two areas that will remain important as the government pursues its development priorities.
The reshuffle also gives President Bio an opportunity to reorganise his administration ahead of the next phase of his government's program.
