NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania — Mauritania’s National Assembly is opening its first ordinary session of the 2026–2027 parliamentary year on October 1, marking the formal return of lawmakers for a new legislative period.
The parliamentary secretariat announced that deputies were summoned to attend a public plenary session at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, in accordance with the Constitution and the Assembly’s internal rules.
The opening begins a new period of parliamentary activity in Mauritania, with the National Assembly expected to resume consideration of legislation and other matters falling within its constitutional responsibilities.
The session comes as the government continues implementing its national policy agenda under President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. The presidency reported that the Council of Ministers also met on September 30 to consider and approve new legislative and regulatory measures.
The return of Parliament provides an important institutional forum for lawmakers to debate government policies, legislation and national priorities during the new parliamentary year.
