MAPUTO — Mozambique is strengthening its creative industries as Maputo hosts the 2026 Cultural and Creative Industries Market from July 30 to August 1, bringing together creators, investors, cultural institutions and members of the public.

The event is designed to showcase Mozambique’s growing creative sector while creating opportunities for artists and cultural entrepreneurs to connect with investors, institutions and potential partners.

Organisers say the market is focused on creativity, innovation, intellectual capital and cultural entrepreneurship. The programme covers different areas of the cultural and creative industries, giving emerging creators an opportunity to present their work and explore new commercial opportunities.

The event comes amid a busy arts calendar in Maputo, which has recently featured exhibitions and installations involving both Mozambican and international artists. The current cultural agenda also includes Jimmy Dludlu’s 40-year career celebration and several contemporary art exhibitions.

Cultural industry observers say stronger links between artists and investors could help expand Mozambique’s creative economy, generate employment and increase the visibility of local artistic talent beyond the country.

The Maputo market highlights a growing effort to treat culture and creativity not only as forms of artistic expression, but also as important contributors to entrepreneurship and economic development.
