NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania — Mauritania is advancing its public-sector digital transformation with a new programme aimed at creating common technical standards for government digital services.
A week-long training programme began in Nouakchott on September 28 under the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Modernisation of Administration. The programme brings together 120 newly recruited government employees and focuses on standardising the architecture used to develop public digital services.
One of the central objectives is to improve interoperability between government systems, allowing public administrations to exchange information so citizens do not have to repeatedly provide the same data when accessing different government services.
The initiative is being developed under the DIGITAL-Y project and includes plans for a national government cloud to host state digital services, alongside a common national design system that can be progressively adopted by ministries.
The government is also preparing a roadmap defining how the new standards will be applied to future digital services.
The development comes as Mauritania expands its broader digital agenda, including recent discussions around financial technology, innovation and digital transformation at the Mauritania Fintech Forum 2026.
