ASMARA, Eritrea — Eritrea is continuing to invest in its telecommunications and digital infrastructure, with authorities reporting progress in expanding telephone and internet services across the country.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications said Eritrea has invested more than 35 billion nakfa over the years in communication infrastructure, including network upgrades, new towers and internet expansion. A total of 184 towers and related accessories have been installed as part of the modernization programme.

Mobile-network geographical coverage has reached around 90%, while authorities say modernization work is continuing. Internet services have also expanded, with 4G-level connectivity now available.

The government plans further telecommunications infrastructure, including additional towers in Araeta, Central Denkalia, Gaden and Dekemhare.

The continued expansion of digital connectivity could create new opportunities for online services, businesses, education and technology-based innovation in Eritrea.

The development also comes as Eritrean institutions increasingly use digital tools for data collection and national planning. The country's 2025 Population and Health Survey, for example, used computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) instead of traditional paper-based collection.
