MALABO — Equatorial Guinea is moving ahead with a major telecommunications modernization effort as GETESA and Huawei work together to upgrade the country’s state-owned telecom network.
The partnership, announced in July, involves a six-month program designed to optimize network infrastructure and improve the quality of voice and data services for citizens, businesses and public institutions.
The project comes as Equatorial Guinea seeks to strengthen its digital infrastructure and expand the role of technology in economic development. Better telecommunications services could support business connectivity, digital government services and wider access to online platforms.
The upgrade is also significant for GETESA as the operator works to improve the reliability and performance of its network. The partnership with Huawei marks a new phase in the modernization of the country's telecommunications system.
Equatorial Guinea has also been participating in wider international efforts on green digital transformation, with ITU and UNESCO holding a major ICT symposium in Malabo earlier this year focused on digital technology, environmental sustainability and the circular economy.
The telecom upgrade could therefore become an important part of Equatorial Guinea’s broader digital transformation, with improved connectivity expected to benefit consumers, companies and government institutions.
