OUAGADOUGOU — Burkina Faso has launched its National Contemporary Art Biennale, bringing together visual artists, sculptors, photographers, designers, and multimedia creators to celebrate innovation in African art.
The event features exhibitions exploring themes of cultural identity, heritage, environmental sustainability, youth creativity, and technological innovation while providing emerging artists with greater exposure to collectors, galleries, and international cultural institutions.
Arts experts say the biennale is strengthening Burkina Faso's reputation as one of West Africa's leading cultural destinations. By encouraging collaboration between established and emerging artists, the exhibition is helping expand opportunities within the country's creative economy.
The programme also includes workshops, artist talks, educational activities, and networking events designed to support young creatives and encourage entrepreneurship across the visual arts sector.
Cultural organisations believe the growing visibility of contemporary African art can stimulate cultural tourism while generating new opportunities for local artists, galleries, and creative businesses.
The National Contemporary Art Biennale reflects Burkina Faso's commitment to promoting artistic excellence, preserving cultural identity, and strengthening its creative industries on the international stage.
