Lesotho’s political landscape has seen a fresh development after three senior officials of the All Basotho Convention (ABC) resigned from the party’s National Executive Committee on September 21.
The officials are Deputy Leader Samonyane Ntsekele, Deputy Chairman Lebakeng Mpana and Deputy Secretary General Tšolo Khechane. Their resignations came within hours of one another, according to Lesotho Tribune.
The departures follow the resignation of ABC Secretary General Thebe Mokoatle during the previous week. Party chairman Kemiso Mosenene also resigned on September 15, adding to a series of changes at the party’s senior leadership level.
The developments have placed renewed attention on the internal leadership and organisational direction of the ABC, a party that has played a significant role in Lesotho politics for two decades.
The reasons given publicly for each latest resignation have not been fully detailed in the available reporting, while previous reports have highlighted disagreements within the party’s National Executive Committee.
The leadership changes could become an important issue for the ABC as it considers its next organisational steps and political direction.
